About source compost

A food waste diversion and compost education company

Our mission

To inspire and help Northern New Jerseyans be better stewards of the Earth. We do this by providing educational and logistical compost services.

Our vision

To be exemplary Earth stewards that succeed in a capitalistic model.

Moving composting forward in New jersey

We see a future where every home, school, business, and town in this state composts their food waste locally. However, the red tape between food waste collectors and the farms that want it is a huge, expensive, and legal issue. Well-meaning, small compost collectors like ourselves are working together with the NJCC and NJDEP to get small-scale, traditional food waste composting on local farms legalized in the future! Learn more about our updates and opportunities to get involved here.

An award-winning idea

In January 2025, Source Compost pitched the idea to the US Compost Council in the Emerging Composter’s Challenge and won third place in the nation! We look forward to helping develop the compost industry in the Garden State with our innovative solutions and community-based work.

Meet Celestine

Celestine graduated from Northern Arizona University and has always been stoked on outdoor adventures and environmental stewardship. She was born in France, grew up with her Mexican family in Arizona, and went back to France in the summers. She traveled and lived in many different states before settling down with her partner in New Jersey. Coming from a more sustainably-minded culture in the French countryside, she brought her composting habits with her to the States. Here, she enjoys working with organic farms and educating people about composting. When she’s not at work, she enjoys cycling and going to the city.
