interns, volunteers & staff

organization

Source Compost is a small business based out of Wayne, NJ. We have a small team and together, we help people get started with composting. Whether that’s through providing them with a service, starting a community program, or teaching them how to compost at home, we can help.

Staff - driver needed

Description: driving and picking up food scraps on Wednesdays. 6 - 12 hours per shift. Need to be able to lift 50 lbs and do repetitive movements such as moving, emptying, washing, rinsing, filling, and using ratchet straps. Need a clean driving record, passion for sustainability, customer service mindset, not easily grossed-out, and a mind for operational logistics. Starting at $16/hour as a 1099 contractor with opportunities to grow.

on call Staff - odd jobs

Odd jobs may include: moving large volumes of food waste, half broken down compost, and finished compost. Occasionally, we will need help with native plant gardening, weeding, digging, etc. We may ask you to drive to a farm to do a drop off. We may ask you to assemble tumblers, which if you’ve ever put together Ikea furniture and followed directions, should not be difficult. Preference for an employee with drivers license, although not all of this work requires driving.

Availability: most work is done on Mondays, although the work fluctuates so we will likely call on you throughout the week. We do our best to communicate in advance if we need help. Someone with schedule flexibility will likely be the best fit for this role.

Required: regular communication of hours availability, dependability, passion for sustainability, customer service mindset, not easily grossed-out, and a mind for operational logistics. Starting at $16/hour as a 1099 contractor with opportunities to grow.

College Interns

This hands-on role can be customized for students interested in sustainability, environmental studies, biology, psychology, AI, writing, entomology, agriculture, social media marketing, and/or community engagement. Regardless of their specialty, each intern will gain practical experience in traditional backyard composting, the industry of  commercial composting, community outreach, sales, and public speaking.

We are not actively seeking interns at this time but students are always welcome to apply.
